I think we are all now used to November being the special month of the year when guys go head-to-head in a battle of who can sport the finest looking moustache.
I’ve known many guys over the years who have grown epic Mo’s but sadly not raised a single penny for Movember, it has undoubtedly raised awareness but it’s only when you look at the MOVEMBER website you realise just how vital the money raised is to help the charity carry out its incredible work.
As a skincare advisor for the charity look good feel better, an incredible charity that helps to support those suffering from or recovering from cancer, I get to see first-hand how testicular cancer affects men and also their friends and family.
So, let’s start with the most important thing us guys should be doing!
And also, in an effort to keep this blog clean, I will refer to the Penis as the meat and the Testicles as the Veg :)
I don’t know many guys; in fact, I don’t know any! Who don’t spend several minutes a day holding their meat, this is either using the toilet, in the shower/bath or for a bit of me time.
Now as we all know the meat is always teamed up with the veg and hopefully they get washed at the same time, if not twice then fingers crossed at least once a day.
Now we all have different routines in the shower or bath but even if you’re a get in, get out kind of guy, using a quick splash of all-in-one body wash, to have a quick check of the veg would add 1 minute to your shower time, which I’m sure we can all agree is a more than reasonable exchange for something that can save you years of your life.
Essentially the deal is, add 1 minute to your shower once a month to Save Your Life!
The more you check, the more it would become just something you do from time to time and if you end up checking once a week that’s not such a bad thing.
The more familiar you get with the veg, the more likely you are to notice a change, which means you would be able to act on it as quickly as possible giving you a much greater chance of survival should it be something serious.
Now for all the ladies that may be reading this, we all know that teamwork makes the dream work, so if you happen to remember about this then a little reminder every now and again could literally save your loved one's life!
Now onto something that, to be honest I didn’t know Movember supported, it was only when I looked at their website I realized that Movember stood for much more than just testicular cancer.
Men’s Health in Crisis
“Men’s health is in crisis. Men are dying on average 5 years earlier than women, for largely preventable reasons.
A growing number of men – around 10.8M globally – are facing life with prostate cancer diagnosis.
Globally testicular cancer is the most common cancer amongst young men. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of the day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.”
These are fairly shocking statistics and to think that at least one man has taken his own life whilst you have been reading this is surely a pretty sobering thought.
Now if you haven’t ever visited the Movember website and like me just amused yourself throughout the month at the often-questionable looking bits of growth, hovering precariously above the top lips of those men brave enough to take on the challenge, you may be a surprised as me to realise that the fundraising goes way beyond the growing of a moustache.
They have challenges that raise money in so many ways,
· Mo Running Challenge
· Big Moustache on Campus Challenge
· The Sport Challenge
· The Schools Challenge
· Movember Business Club Challenge
· Emergency Services Challenge
I know for me, my desire to support men and their mental health, increase the awareness around testicular cancer is something that will not last for just one month.
I am already in the process of planning next year's charity board event and many other ways to raise funds for these incredible charities, so to avoid missing the updates click here to be added to the mailing list.
I will also be launching a range of men’s boxer shorts in time for Christmas with 50% of all profit going directly to support charities like Movember, which will help them to continue the incredible work they do.
Thanks for reading this and I hope you learned something!
